Comprehensive individual assessments

A detailed assessment of your child's development in all relevant areas including listening, attention, language, social, communication, pragmatic and play skills. This gives a detailed profile of your child's strengths and weaknesses, which enables a diagnostic formulation, needs based profile and treatment programme to be devised. This on occasions may involve parents attending with their child for several sessions, followed by an assessment feedback and planning meeting with parents. For others three or four sessions only may be required. The therapist will discuss with you the profile of needs and plan the most effective way of working with your child. A comprehensive diagnostic and summary report of the assessment findings is provided with recommendations of need. Support, liaison and advice is available to schools as appropriate.

Individual therapy sessions

Individual therapy sessions involve working with the child on individualised therapy goals identified in the assessment. The therapist works closely with parents and teachers to provide a programme which they can practice at home or school. Programmes are discussed, demonstrated and shared in clinic and school based therapy sessions. In addition the therapist advises on adaptations to the curriculum and individual support strategies which facilitate language and social communication skills. Friendship skills, appropriate social use of language and peer interaction are supported through individualised work and children are shown how to use self help skills.
