Individual Therapy

Our therapist helps children, adolescents and young adults with a range of social-emotional, communication, interaction, and learning needs. Individual goals are identified and therapy support provided in close collaboration with parents, teachers and caregivers. We pride ourselves in a lifetime relationship with the child or young person into adulthood, through different life stages. It’s not a ‘one size fits all,’ we are here to guide and signpost you through any stage with a flexible service to support the individual person’s life journey. We support families and education through every stage and help you access other professionals and local services where appropriate.

Therapy is available for children and young people in primary or secondary schools, colleges, universities, and higher education. We provide a 1-hour initial consultation to gain background information and identify the most appropriate therapy for you. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to email us at office@roundwaycentre.org.uk.

Younger Children (under 6 years)

For younger children, therapy works with parents, teachers, or carers, supporting their adapted interaction (e.g. PACT) or helping the nursery or school make adjustments and implement strategies. PACT therapy guides adults in adapting their style of interaction and communication support using video review and reflective feedback techniques by observing the child’s interaction in a natural, relaxed and familiar setting, including at home, nursery or school. Blocks of individual therapy sessions and monitoring maintenance sessions are available.

Older Children (6 -11 years)

For other young people, whether it is school-based anxiety, demand avoidance, or worries about making friends and feeling accepted, the therapist can help them gain insight and discover their inner resilience through therapy, counselling, and support strategies. Social-emotional issues can affect concentration, sleep, enthusiasm, self-respect, the will to change, and the ability to function daily.

We use methods, including art, observation, and sensitive listening to the young person. When young people feel comfortable without the demand to talk, they typically gain trust and interact more freely with the therapist.

We identify the root cause of the concerns through an individual assessment, gaining the child’s views and listening to parents and teachers to gain a full picture to gain a better understanding and provide an individually tailored plan to realise their potential. Parents and teachers are consulted during and after the assessment, followed by a feedback and planning meeting to help embed strategies in daily life at home and school.

Young Adolescents (11 to 18 years)

For young adolescents, whether dealing with transitions, anxiety, or friendships and relationships and feeling accepted for who they are, the therapist can help them gain insight and discover their inner resilience and identity. The therapy and counselling sessions are confidential and respectful, supporting the person find individual strategies that feel comfortable to them. Social-emotional issues can affect concentration, sleep, enthusiasm, self-respect, the will to change, and the ability to function daily, which can be improved by identifying and supporting the underlying contributing factors through individual therapy.

Therapy is valuable to help with transition planning to higher education. The assessment provides a profile of an individual unique learning and communication style, attributes and needs. We also provide a life skills assessment and individualised therapy support to help young adolescents to prepare for the demands of transitioning to adult independence. Gaining the person’s trust to interact and feel comfortable to work freely with the therapist is central to our therapy.

We address the root cause of the concerns by carefully listening to the young person’s priorities, perceptions, and aspirations, guiding them through a journey of self-discovery, respect, and understanding to realise their potential. Parents and teachers provide invaluable support that enables the person to confidently use strategies in everyday situations.

Young Adults (18 to 25 years)

For young adults, whether they are in higher education, an apprenticeship or work, dealing with the demands of daily life, interactions at work and home friendships or relationships, we can help them prepare for and navigate the adult world. The therapist can help them gain insight and discover their inner self for who they are and build their identity. Therapy can help young adults make better choices in life aligned with their unique profile and attributes.
