SEND Training and Practical Support
We offer focused training and practical guidance to help school staff understand pupils’ needs, explore potential barriers to learning, and develop supportive approaches for everyday school life.
PDA and Demand Avoidance Training
Practical training with Helen Mortimer to help school staff better understand demand avoidance and explore supportive approaches for pupils who experience it.
Two-hour staff session
- One hour of training and presentation
- One hour of discussion and Q&A
- Can fit into an existing staff meeting or training slot
Understanding Children Who Go Under the Radar
Some children’s difficulties are less visible in school. Helen can help staff explore presentations such as anxiety, masking and withdrawal, and consider what may be contributing to a pupil’s needs.
The focus is on developing understanding and identifying supportive approaches that may help the child feel more comfortable and able to engage.
EHCP Advice and Practical Classroom Support
Helen offers practical, child-focused support to help school staff think through how a pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) can inform everyday practice.
Support can involve teaching assistants or learning support assistants, SENCOs and, where appropriate, the class teacher.
Helen Mortimer, Consultant SEN Autism Specialist and former headteacher, delivers these services.
